My Life's Call in Bowling Green

Hi. Sorry it's been so long. I'll just jump right into it.
I have an awesome bible called "The Complete Personalized Promise Bible." You can turn to chapters in the Bible, and it will dissect it and turn it into personalized prayers. So...you're literally praying the verses and applying them to you. This year, God has lead me to read Ezekial 3...a lot. Well, tonight I discovered Ezekial 3 in this cool Bible. Here's what I found.

"I have been given the assignment of watchman to warn people against the consequences of evil. I offer God's goodness and mercy to a hurting world suffering from the cruel hand of Satan. I refuse to sit idly by and watch the devil take people to hell. I stand up in their defense, giving them warning and telling them of a new and better way. I am a soul-winner for God and a voice leading backsliders to return to the arms of their Father.

God's hand is upon me and His Spirit is within me. He gives me specific instructions as to what to say and what to do as I fulfill my commission. God reveals to me exactly what I need to say in any given situation, or to any certain individual. Together, we are winning this world for His glory."

Here are the scriptures that go with the prayer.
"Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 18 When I say to a wicked man, 'You will surely die,' and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for [a] his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. 19 But if you do warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his evil ways, he will die for his sin; but you will have saved yourself.

20 "Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and does evil, and I put a stumbling block before him, he will die. Since you did not warn him, he will die for his sin. The righteous things he did will not be remembered, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. 21 But if you do warn the righteous man not to sin and he does not sin, he will surely live because he took warning, and you will have saved yourself."

Life's trials

Well...I know I should update more, so this is my attempt. What has happened over the past few weeks? Well, last week was Red Ribbon Week at school. For those of you who have not experienced "Red Ribbon Week," it's a week that is dedicated to being drug-free. The kids usually receive a red ribbon. I had never planned a Red Ribbon Week before, so I've been thinking about it/planning for it since beginning of September. For the past 2 weeks, everything else has pretty much been on hold, as I've been living and breathing this crazy event. Needless to say, I survived and it's over. The trickiness to the week, was that I planned 2 complete agendas (for the junior high and the high school) and I can't be two places at once. So part of the fun was figuring out who could do what in my absence. I learned a lot about who I could count on (both kids and adults) as I left jobs in their hands. All the kids at the high school received a "be drug free" pencil at lunch. Some of the kids decided to break them in half and throw them at each other at lunch. I have a nice brown lunch bag full of broken pencil shards that the custodian gave me. At the junior high, they all got a red ribbon. If they wore the ribbon all week, they had a chance of winning a prize everyday. I'm just very glad that it's over. I'll surely do it differently next year...that's for sure!

Aaron has been busy helping people over the last few months. Last weekend (Friday and Saturday), he was doing "Extreme Makeover: Dayspring Edition" in Wayne, OH. Our church decided to adopt a family and help them with their home renovations. Now. Aaron is trying to battle a "bad cold" in Aaron's terms. I made him go to the ER yesterday morning, and the doctor never did tell him what was wrong. On the discharge report, it said bronchitis. He's on antibiotics. He was also given tylenol w/codeine to help him sleep at night. Last night, we did have a nice long chunk of sleep. I'm so thankful it was the time change this weekend.

Our latest trial, is that our furnace stopped working today. Aaron's trying to find someone we know who can check it out/fix it. Thankfully, it's only supposed to get down to 50 tonight...yeah!!! At least it won't be 30. Tomorrow it's supposed to be mid-60's. Another yeah! Well, that's about all. Thanks for reading!

Where has she gone?

I'm sure you've been thinking, "Does Missy remember that she still has a blog??.....Missy must be pretty busy if she hasn't posted in awhile..." I don't know why I've gotten out of the habit of posting. If anyone still checks to see if there's anything new, 2 points for you! Has the last month been especially busy? No...not at all. I'm getting into the swing of things at my new job. I've been teaching ballet on Saturday mornings. I've been going to bible study on Tuesday nights. I've been trying to go to sleep about 20 minutes earlier than my usual bedtime of 10:00 due to my early morning wake up at 5:44 am. I have to be out of the house at 7 am sharp to make it to school on time by 7:30. I usually get home from school around 4:10ish. I've taught LifeSkills for the past 9 weeks at the Junior High. I've really enjoyed it. I like junior high kids...surprisingly. Some of them get so excited about talking about drugs and alcohol...and they ask great questions like, "If cigarettes are so bad for you, why are they legal?" I've also been teaching LifeSkills in the health classes at the HS (mostly to 9th and 10th graders). That's not nearly as fun as the junior high. Most of the high schoolers just look at me and don't participate in discussions. The obnoxious ones who are the class clowns like to participate, but usually not appropriately. Some great relationships are beginning to develop with some of the high school girls that are a part of Teen Institute. Teen Insitute (aka "TI") is a drug/alcohol free group for teens that emphasizes peer to peer prevention and leadership. As part of my job, I'm the TI advisor at both the JH and the HS. I love how some girls choose to stop by or hang out in my office when they have downtime. Yeah! That's what I wanted. We have Red Ribbon week coming up, and that's causing a significant amount of stress. There's so much preparation involved....and I've never done it before. I have a great plan of action planned...but now it's all about how to implement it. Please pray for the students at the HS to be delivered from the bondage of drugs and alcohol. I've had the opportunity to talk to quite a few parents lately who have kids who are using...and it's hard to hear the struggles they're going through...and how helpless they seem. Pray that I would have wisdom to guide them in the right direction. I guess that's about all. If I seem to be consumed by my job, it's because I am. At least right at this moment! Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Welcome to the Stott family rendition of the Extreme Makeover experience. It all started I can't remember how far back, when we found out that the show was coming to Toledo and you could volunteer. Aaron was immediately interested and filled out the skilled laborer volunteer interest form on the buildwithbuckeye.com website. (side note: if you go to the website and click on EM: HE, and pictures of the week...when you click on pictures for Saturday, you'll see Aaron carrying in the train bed into the house with a poncho and hardhat on) So, after filling out the form, he got a call from the guy in charge of finish carpentry. He asked Aaron if he'd like to be part of the trim/finish carpentry team. They needed 46 guys for that team, and Aaron could be part of it. He was ecstatic and said YES! After talking to the guy in charge, that guy also asked if Aaron would be interested in being on the local design team...the team that works directly with the designers of the show making the custom furniture, etc. Aaron definitely said YES to that too. A little while later, the guy in charge called back and said that they wanted Aaron only on the local design team, which was so exciting....to which Aaron said YES YES YES! So, before the project began, he was told that the producer of the show would be the next person calling him to tell him where to be and when.

Last Sunday, we found out who the family would be. It happened to be, that the family is a close friend of my new friend, Linda. They're Christians...he's a firefighter, she used to be a youth pastor/Christian counselor and they have 11 kids...5 boys adopted from Haiti, 3 adopted from Toledo, and 3 biological children..

We attended the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition rally/benefit concert last Sunday night where all the proceeds of ticket sales, raffles, and shirts/hats/bracelets went directly to the family. The cast of the show came out at the end and were available to sign autographs... It was the beginning of an amazing week. On Wednesday, Aaron reported to "local design team" duty. He worked Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (today). He was there from around 7ish in the morning to 7ish or 8 at night. All their meals were provided and they had free massage therapists for the volunteers to take advantage of. He was treated like a KING!! There was unlimited beverages and volunteers who had the job of handing out water to the other volunteers. I forgot to mention that the local design team consisted of Aaron and just 5 or 6 other guys. They worked in their own special tent they called "Art World." They worked with Rib and Paul, the designers on the show. Rib or Paul would design a room, the Head Carpenter of the show would draw it, and then they'd hand it to the local design team and have them create it. Aaron helped make two modern beds that will go in the room for the kids who like computers, as well as a bunk bed ladder. He also helped design/build a choo choo train bed for the 3 year old in the family. The camera taped him, Paul DiMeo, and 2 other local guys singing "I've Been Working on the Railroad" while standing next to the train bed. He spent tons of personal time with Paul DiMeo and Rib. They know him by name. Paul said this was the best local design team he'd ever worked with, and mentioned that he wished they could come with him to his next build in Minnesota. Aaron said it would be awesome to go to the next build. Paul said, "don't mess with me man....if you're not serious..." So...after some more talking, Paul offered to pay for Aaron's gas and provide him with a trailer to stay in, if Aaron would come to the next build in Minnesota to work with Paul. So of course, Aaron said YES! So, in a few weeks, Aaron will be heading to Albert Lea, MN to help with the next build. He has the show's head carpenter's card and phone number, so Aaron will be contacting him. Aaron won't be getting paid for it, but I truly believe God will bless Aaron for his service. Last night, Aaron wanted me to come to the site because Rib wanted to meet me. Isn't that funny? (he said something like that). So....if Rib said he wanted to meet me, I dropped everything to come! Aaron was really excited to get to introduce me to all the big whigs, so last night I met Rib (there's a picture of Aaron and I with Rib on facebook), Paul (Paul's first words to me were, "Thanks for letting your husband go to Minnesota!), and Didi. I also met the head carpenter and his assistant. I went to the site today too (I was late for saying "move that bus", but at least I was there for the end). Tonight, Aaron's at a party at the Erie Street Market being thrown by the builders for the cast and some that volunteered. Aaron's hoping Paul will be there, because he didn't get to officially say bye. This morning, Aaron got to the site at 7:30 because he was going to eat breakfast with Paul and then help him install a train track/train that will be hanging from the ceiling of the 3 year old room. So, Aaron and Paul hung out together this morning working on that project. This week has been life changing for Aaron. He has developed self-confidence and made so many contacts with local builders. I can tell that God's favor has truly been upon him. I pray that Aaron will continue to be able to be involved in something that involves working as part of a team to make a difference in someone's life....whether he could get a job with the show...or with something local like Habitat for Humanity. Pray that we would be available for God to reveal His will, and that Aaron would stay encouraged as the process ends tonight. Short and sweet

Hi loyal readers, I think this post is going to be short and sweet. Gone are the days when I used to update every week...on the same day even. It continues to be crazy that I'm finishing up my second week of school. I still feel SO new. Each day is an accomplishment when I can cross stuff off my to-do list. Of course, I always do the easy tasks first....so there's been a few tasks on my work to-do list that are so intimidating and confusing that I've just put them off. You'd think that buying a bunch of red ribbons for Red Ribbon Week would be easy....but NOT when you're me!! I'm such a perfectionist and such a people pleaser. Part of what's making my job hard right now is that I want to do everything "right." I don't want to find out months down the road that I was supposed to be keeping track of this.....or writing a report about that. This is definitely a "learn as you go" kind of job. I continue to love my supervisor. On Tuesday, I was feeling overwhelmed and told her I needed to spend some time with her. She took me to a free preschool room where we could look out the windows and simply talk. It was nice. I saw my first 3 high school students this week. I'm definitely needing to rely on God for HIS strength at this job...just like I had prayed for. Did I mention before that I decided not to do the play? Meaning...I'm not going to do the choreography or be "in" the Christmas drama at church. It's definitely a load of stress lifted...knowing that I won't have to be at play practice all the time. I've been learning a lot about "inquiring" of God before making decisions, and I realized I'd never inquired of God regarding whether I should do the play or not. When I inquired and asked Him, He responded with, "I have already sent you to your mission field." So...with God's direction, I said no to the play.

I can't wait to actually LIVE in Bowling Green. It will be so awesome, and I'll appreciate my job all the more. Next Wednesday, I'm going to Washington Local to say goodbye to the kids and provide some closure. That will be a really hard day...I don't know if it will be harder for ME or for them. Well....since I'm getting up at a very early time of day now, due to my commute each day, I should probably go to sleep. Thanks for reading. 2 weeks and a day

Hi- Well...it's been 2 weeks and a day since starting my new job. At times, it seems like I've been working there forever. In other ways, I feel so clueless! Oh...the adventures I've been on! I started on Friday...and the following Wednesday, I was in Columbus at a conference for 3 days. It was a great way to bond with my new co-workers and learn lots of stuff about drug addiction. I went to a 6 hour seminar about drugs and street smarts. I got to look at and touch all kinds of drugs...and I don't feel nearly as naive as before. We got to go to Easton each night after the conference and we went to Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Chang's...and I get meal reimbursement. Yeah!!! It was surely nice to be home though. We had someone come to look at the house on Tuesday night, but we haven't heard anything. Yesterday was my first day at Bowling Green Junior High. I helped with 7th grade orientation and did little presentations about who I am and what I do. It was nice to get a taste of what I'll be doing and who I'll be working with. The 7th grade guidance counselor is also new this year...and I happen to know her. Her name's Rachel. We both went to Maumee and she took at Toledo Ballet when we were in high school. It's nice to be clueless with someone else!! Today, I went to a New Employee luncheon at BG Country Club sponsored by BG Chamber of Commerce. It was quite nice and I got to see lots of BG big whigs. This afternoon, I got to spend a few hours at Bowling Green High School in my beloved office. My dear sister in Christ who works at Penta doing the same job that I do, came to pray with me over my office. She even went and bought special anointing oil and had the oil prayed over at the prayer center. We prayed that evil would flee and that there would be a shift as I take over the job. We rid my office of any remnants of the past. It was awesome!! This weekend, I'm planning on going to Kohl's and Penney's. I got 2 coupons this week for $10 off $10. Those are my favorite kinds of coupons to get. So...good shopping for me is on my horizon. Continue praying for me....that God's will would be accomplished through me at my new job.
